Why great hair is more than just a good blow-dry

Why great hair is more than just a good blow-dry

We’ve all had that one transformative blow-dry—the bounce, the shine, the feeling of walking out into the world a little taller. But at The DO Salon, we know great hair goes deeper. It’s not just about the final look—it’s about the health, care, and considered rituals that support it.

As Mother’s Day approaches, we invite you to pause and reflect on what it truly means to give something meaningful. Great hair is a gift, yes—but it’s also a practice. And like all good things, it starts with the right balance of expert support and at-home care.

The science behind drying hair: blow-dry versus air-dry

There’s a long-standing myth that air-drying is better for your hair than blow-drying. But the truth is a little more complex. A study by Yonsei University in Korea found that letting hair stay wet for too long can actually damage the cell membrane complex, the part that keeps your hair supple and strong. Left too long in a damp state, hair fibres swell and become more prone to damage.

That's why Annette, the DO salon's Director, and Australian INNOluxe ambassador, recommends a gentle blow-dry with care.

“Towel-dry to around 80%, then use a heat protectant and a low-to-medium heat setting. This way, you reduce moisture overload while locking in smoothness and shine, without the risk of over-drying.”

This kind of mindful drying is part of what we do every day in the salon. But it’s also something we guide clients on for their routines—because great hair doesn’t stop at the salon door.

The role of home rituals in hair health

While a professional finish is a beautiful boost, proper hair health is built in between appointments. That’s why we champion a haircare routine that reflects your lifestyle, texture, and goals—with products chosen not because they’re trending, but because they work.

One of Annette’s go-to products? INNOluxe Elixir V3—a light, leave-in treatment that strengthens bonds and adds weightless shine. It’s the kind of product that earns its place on your bathroom shelf—not for the label, but for the results.

She also swears by a platinum toning mask to keep blondes bright without compromising softness—a key factor in maintaining that salon-fresh feeling at home.

These are more than just products. They’re tools that support hair health in the long run, especially when recommended by someone who understands your hair, inside and out.

This Mother's Day, give something that gives back.

Whether it’s a gift card for an in-salon moment she’d never book for herself, or a curated selection of products that offer visible results, this is about more than looking good.

It’s about helping her feel seen. Restored. A little more like herself again.

Because great hair doesn’t just change how she looks, it changes how she feels.
